Our Team
Vern Miller – Owner
US Navy Veteran, Vern Miller was born in Las Vegas. The Millers found their way to the PNW where he grew up in Roy, WA. With over 30 years of experience in excavation and crane and a knowledge, money-hungry mentee and co-owner, Newton, by his side Underground Excavating Solutions was created and based out of his hometown.
Vern is the heart and soul of UES Field Operations. He prides himself on his ability to recognize and create solutions with high standards that do not cut corners. That along with his proficiency in all phases of sewer, septic system, demolition, clearing, logging, and more is what gives UES the above satisfactory work that their clients have come to rave about.
Vern is pretty happy with the fact that UES is continuing to grow and has the ability to give good jobs to hardworking people. Not only within UES but the professional community.
In his free time, Vern enjoys spending time with his family, including his little girl, fishing, and working in the yard. He’s not one to be known for his ability to sit down and relax.
Newton Houston Co-Owner
In the desert of Tempe, AZ, Newton Houston was born and raised. Throughout life, Newton has dealt with the heat of many different career paths and life challenges. From being a union plumbing apprentice to a state-certified construction materials technician, there hasn’t been a job that Newton could fathom leaving unfinished. As the prodigy of two geotechnical engineers from Arizona State University, he was given the opportunity to learn how to solve some of the world’s toughest issues from an engineering point of view.
At the young age of 33, Newton divulged into co-owner of Underground Excavating Solutions, located out of Roy, WA, with his mentor, Vern, by his side. Over the last year, Newton has stepped back from the labor aspect and entered into the administrative aspect of the company to ensure that accurate and quality solutions for their clients are established while keeping the client’s vision in mind.
He uses his precision for detail and love for numbers to ensure that he is providing an affordable and precise job quote that includes all of the fine details of work and material needing to be done. One of Newton’s favorite things about his role is being able to surround himself and build relationships with some of the best professionals in the construction industry. While this new role has been challenging, it has been extremely rewarding. Not only for himself but for his family.
In his free time, he enjoys being a husband and a dad of four. His hobbies include basketball and hiking. His everlasting message is, “Something can be learned from each individual that is met if you are willing to listen and evaluate’.
